KEEPING AUSTIN WEIRD
Pics are of Canyon Ridge house being made ready for prospective buyers as well as
the new house in Pflugerville.
New house in Pflugerville! Nice community, close to everything but not
too close.
My company provided a move package which was nice. We would have liked to have used
it for moving, but being true to their nature, the title company sucked us dry with
unexpected last minute extras. But we made it and still paid the movers to bring our stuff! Bobby came from New Mexico and Steph came to the Fort Worth house early and helped all day. Amber was our first overnight guest and helped Marti hang pictures and unpack before I even moved in due to work committments in Fort Worth. Thanks guys, you were great!
In the few days we have before I start my new job, we try to get in some Austin stuff
to get acclimated. We go downtown to see 6th street which is the epicenter of the party
and nighttime music area. It's kinda like a scaled down version of the French Quarter.
The rest of downtown reminded me a little of San Francisco, also scaled down,
complete with a streetcorner transvestite.
We ate at the Iron Cactus, one of the many highly rated 6th Street restaurants.
A little overpriced but good tex-mex. We also went on a city tour in an
amphibious vehicle that I don't think ever exceeded 20 mph. It also goes out on Town
Lake which was a little cool but not as big a deal as you expect. A couple of days
later we went to the Bob Bullock Museum, it's 3 floors of Texas
history. Very cool place. Haven't made it to the capital yet but we will.
More recently we went to Salado, which is about 40 miles north. Very small town with
a quarter mile shopping area, little picturesque shops by a small creek. The centerpiece
is the Stagecoach Inn.
